Baby gecko is thirsty!

I use a paper towel under my glass of water to collect the condensation.  The other night a baby gecko decided that was a good way to get a cool drink.

I have a couple of them that come every evening to help me with my embroidery. Actually I think they come for the little gnats that hover around my task lamp.

Saturday Afternoon and a flight of beer

Yesterday, "A" and her boyfriend, Ernie, included me in their trip to The Maui Brewing Company. We went on a tour of the brewery and then were treated to a flight of beers. Maui Brewing Company is working on becoming 100% off the grid with their solar panels on the roof, they source their cans from Oahu and are such big supporters of Maui.

They did a special edition beer that supports the sharks research efforts which "E" is a team member of.

We had a great afternoon. After the tour we enjoyed our beers on the lanai.
 

Why is it called a "flight of beers" you ask?  A flight means a grouping of similar objects like a flight of stairs or a flight of geese. Now you know.

Hot, Hot, hot!

In our garden, little Hawaiian chili peppers growing bigger every day.  They say that the 'Hawaiian'  is as hot as the average habañero values, or ~200,00 Scoville Heat Units.

They should be ready soon for you, Burns.

Hanging in there

On Coconut Island, where E does her shark internship, there is this guard rail.  The last time I was on the island with her and then again this trip, I admired it.  I keep forgetting to take photos, so thanks E for taking this shot for me.  (I have to get better at this photo thing.)

It looks like it hasn’t moved an inch since I saw it last but it probably has.

I don’t know how long it has been there - forever it looks like. The island used to be owned by rich people so it was probably built in the 1930-40’s.  A side note, the island was used as the opening shot for the Gilligan’s Island tv show.  

I am amazed that although nature is trying to make it fall down the embankment, it is still hanging in there.  The rail is massive.  Just look at the size of that chain!  Can you just imagine the equipment and people that it took to put that chain in place?  The posts are made from rock that was probably from the island itself.

This guard rail could be a metaphor for life. How nature is trying to bring it down but it is still staying strong and hanging in there. We could only hope that we are as strong, when we come upon challenges in life.
